Another every-once-in-a-while update:

Well hello again. :)

I finished the apples from the 3 apple trees here around our house. This is one of the several batches of apple butter that I cooked down.
 My Grandma Marly came and stayed here for parts of 4 days and helped me with putting up apples and corn. She also went along with my mom and I to partially clean out the jars from our former land lady, Fern's basement. Most of the jars we brought home are canning jars, and most of them had old food in which we had to clean out and then scrub the jars really well and put them in the dishwasher.
Grandma came with to get the Azure order and then we stopped in at Mid Dakota Grain in Steele so as to see all the improvements.
 We had a visiting goose for a while. He was obviously somebody's pet. He ended up being the neighbor's.
 My mom bought herself a 4-wheeler at the Orr auction. :)
Michael & I bought a car trailer that needs work but was a good buy.
 Paula McGrew (we live in what used to be her grandma's home) came to ND to visit for a few days and stayed up at Andrew's place.  Here she is, riding with her cousin through the Braddock Threshing Bee parade.
 Zach M. driving the old trencher through the parade.
 James & Jenny came and visited us again mid-September. It was their anniversary weekend, so I experimented and made my first ice cream cake.

We took them to the Braddock Threshing Bee and both Michael and James drove tractors through the parade.
 My Michael.....
Like the wheels? :)
 My man----helping to thresh the grain...
 Tracy Jo, riding the kid's tractor-pull rig.  There's a weighted trailer hooked on behind.
My mom, Paula McGrew, Michael some of the time, and I did an apple cider pressing demonstration during the threshing bee and gave free samples of the cider. We gave out about 3 gallons of cider over the 2 days.  I also demonstrated using the drop spindle some of the time, when I wasn't kept hopping with the cider pressing.

 Michael worked up half of the alfalfa field we're renting from my parents and planted a mix of rye and oats. The rye is up a couple inches already now.
 My husband and I went, uh, boating a week ago Saturday. We went down to Beaver
Lake State Park, caught no fish, then went on McKenna (West) Lake and also caught no fish, so yeah, we went boating----not fishing.
 Last Sunday, the two of us went to Bismarck to run errands for the farm and to buy a trailer-full of sheep fencing (woven wire) from 2 different people, using our "new" trailer. We were able to trade hay for some of the wire.

It was such a beautiful day, so we decided to take an hour or so to go to the zoo, since Michael hadn't been there yet and it's a really nice zoo.
 ...they even have alligators!
 Putting up the 3rd planting of sweet corn...
This variety is called Anasazi sweet corn and is from seed I saved a few years back. I love all the colors.
 I baked 2 pies in honor of the first day of Fall:
~Squash pie and Peanut butter cream pie (both sugar-free)~
I made another batch of soap from scratch (using a friend's beef lard, my goat's milk, coconut oil, lye, pink clay, essential oils, and pink Himalayan salt. We'll see how it turns out in 4 weeks.

 "They" have begun work on redoing the road corner to the south of our place. This is in my dad's alfalfa field. What a mess!  I helped my dad clean off the field of haybales so they weren't in the way (which means that I got my old job of driving the hay-truck).
Yesterday we went to our church's annual Harvest of Thanks celebration in Alfred. It was a great day of speaking, good food, and lots of music that praised our Lord.

And now, we're starting a new week. The guys are keeping very busy up at Steele, 6 days a week usually. They do have line 1 up and running, so are cleaning grain as they work on line 2 and then line 3 someday.  They are saving so much money by doing the work themselves (things like building conveyors).

Happy Autumn, everyone!

MY BROTHER IS ENGAGED!!

What happened to that little brother of mine? How can he (Andrew) now be engaged to be married??

According to these pictures, he has indeed won the heart of Lady Marie fair
and they are planning a wedding for December in Kentucky!

 Yes, I think they're just a wee bit happy. :)
 Last year at this time, I was checking things off in my wedding planner book. This year, I loaned it to my brother...  How time does fly and changes things.

We are very happy to be adding Marie to our family and I look forward to having her living right up the road from us in just a few short months.  God is so good and has answered many prayers to bring this to be!

So behind!

Where does the time go? It's been over a month now since I posted here. I've been so very busy living life (especially putting up garden produce), but at last, we have a rain day (3+ inches so far today), so I will take the time to post here in my on-line journal of sorts.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the end of July, Andrew's friend, Marie came from Kentucky to visit us all and stayed for over a week. We worked on reshingling the farmhouse roof (where Michael and I are living currently). That took longer than we thought it would and we ended up covering part of the roof up with tarps and plastic while we went on vacation for 3 days to Medora and the Teddy Roosevelt National Park in the Western part of North Dakota.  Josephine L was kind enough to do all of our milking and other chores so that we could all go.
 Almost finished....
 A panoramic view of the T. R. national park....
The first night there, we went to the musical.
The next day, we took old-time photos; walked through Medora; and drove through the National park, stopping to hike in many places.  Jacob was along with Michael & I in our car, so we did most of the hiking with him.
Can you believe this is in North Dakota??
 We got to see many wild horses...
 ...and a few bison (one of them was really close to the car).
He sounded none too pleased.
 Then it was time for ice cream... (I had black licorice ice cream. Delicious!)
Marie and Andrew...
The next day, we walked through the Chateau de Mores visitor center....
 ...then toured the Chateau. This was the home of the lady, Medora, her husband and their small children. Medora was an avid horse rider and marksman and loved to hunt.
 On the way home, Michael & I stopped in to visit Lauretta. :) Lee was at work, so we didn't see him.
After returning from the West, my parents hosted a get together at their house. It was a fun day of playing games, eating sweet corn (and other food), and just visiting.  The M. family (from IL) stopped in on their way to their vacation in the West.
Mid-week, Michael and I left again, this time to see Duluth, MN. Oh, and we were there for the main purpose of helping Michael's sister, Rachael load up some of their heavy earthly belongings as they were moving down closer to Michael's parent's place where Nicholas got a new job.
 Rachael took us to see a few of the sights...
 Michael and his dear sister...
 We got to see the bridge go up and a huge ship go underneath it...
 This is the ship!
 We got to spend a little time at Dale & Kathy's before having to head for home again.  James & Jenny came too, so we were able to visit and catch up with them.  The brothers had to drive their dad's new tractor around a bit, of course.
 Snitching peas from Kathy's garden...
 When we got home, it was time to celebrate my beloved husband's birthday!!  :)
He worked up at Steele for a portion of the day, but did come home early so we could spend some time together. That evening, we had the neighbors over for....
 ...cake and ice cream.
 Not long after that, it was time for the last Project Appleseed of the year. We had a good turnout this time (17 shooters), with a Shoot Boss coming from IL and 2 other guys coming to help out with instruction and safety, running the line and such.
 Andrew got promoted to SHOOT BOSS!!!
AND Michael made the RIFLEMAN score!!! :)  I'm still so happy for him. :)
 What a great shooting event it was!!
  The cider press that Michael & I ordered arrived and I've been busy making lots of cider.
 We ordered some champagne yeast and turned a small portion of the apple cider into sparkling cider (it's fizzy, just like pop).
The garden produce is coming in fast and furious now. I've been making pickles, putting up green beans, and freezing sweet corn.
 Michael keeps moving fences for the sheep/goats/llama so they have new grass and weeds to chew on.
 The lambs really don't need milk anymore.
 Michael has a pet chicken: Cookies & Cream the 2nd
When he was little, he had a pet chicken of the same breed (Light Brahma).
Michael, my dad and brothers have been spending their days up at Steele, setting up the plant to be much more efficient and to move grain through so much faster. They've been buying supplies on online auctions, so will be doing some traveling in the days ahead.
And now, it is time to go stir the apple butter down.
God has been so good!
